Hello...I'm Dawn Mason, and I'm lucky enough to have found my dream job. Floristry was never something I thought of to do as a career. I went to university but after the first year I decided that it wasnt for me. At the time I was working at a garden centre and really enjoyed learning about the different flowers and plants so mum suggested a floristry course at Reaseheath College. After my first morning on the course I knew.... knew that this was what I wanted to do as a career. After gaining my qualifications at college I worked in a florist in Sandbach and one on the outskirts of Manchester as manager before deciding that I would like to run my own shop
I grew up on a farm with my 3 siblings and we were always outside. Whether it was helping feed the newborn calves, going for woodland walks or building dens in the hay bales. So when it came to opening my own shop in 2004, locating it in the old bull pen on my parents farm was the obvious choice as it ment I could still help out on the farm.
Thats me on the left in both pictures.
Running a busy florist and gift shop with my mum, Mary, we are open 7 days a week so that we can cater for all events, such as weddings and christenings as well as day to day orders. Having the Shropshire Union canal at the bottom of the garden we have barges stopping all throughout the year to buy gifts as well as ice creams from Snugburys (Nantwich) and jams from Mrs Darlingtons (Crewe).
I love every aspect of florisrty, whether it be designing wedding flowers with a newly engaged couple, delivering beautiful blooms for a special birthday or simply putting together stunning combinations of flowers and foliages, I enjoy the variety that each day brings. If I had to say what was my favourite part of my job I would have to say creating gorgeous wedding flowers, every couple is so different in their style, and providing floral displays for a variety of venues means that no 2 weddings are ever the same.
